Getting Ready for your Invite-Only Session
Here are a few helpful tips to prepare for your Invite-Only session!
After you book:
Make a moodboard & playlist for your session.
Moodboards are fun to make so I recommend making one to get excited for your session! I personally make moodboards for most of my shoots because they help me visualize themes and ideas. I also love when clients come in with a Spotify playlist ready to go for their session because music is so helpful for getting into a relaxed and fun headspace for your shoot! If you have any nerves at all, putting on your fave songs can really make all the difference. I also have my own vibey playlist ready to go if you just want to play mine during your session!
Raid your closet or go lingerie shopping.
Maybe one of the most parts of booking an Invite-Only session is getting to try on all the lingerie pieces in your closet, and then going shopping for a new piece or two! I love to hit local/vintage lingerie sellers and then hop over to a few favorite online places if I can’t find any favorites locally.
Week of your session:
Fill out your session questionnaire.
I’ll send you a questionnaire before your session so we’re both fully prepared. This is when you’ll share the vision and any inspiration/ideas you have for your session with me! You’ll also let me know your comfort levels (like how naked you want to get for your session, or any concerns you want to share with me), etc.
Make sure you EAT FOOD and drink plenty of WATER before your session.
It’s important to eat lots of healthy food and drink lots of water in the days and weeks leading up to your session. Trust me, you’ll need the energy to hold some of the poses (it’s kind of like an easy yoga class at times!) and your skin, lips, etc. will all look best when you’re nourished and hydrated. If you’re worried about bloating, just be mindful of the foods you eat, but please, please, please do not skip meals for your session. Please do not crash diet or stop eating to cut weight for your session, weight loss is not the goal. You are literally perfect the way you are.
Do your self-care/grooming however you like.
Be sure to moisturize generously so your skin is looking its best, and neatly trim your nails and remove any chipped polish if you’re not opting for a mani/pedi, but there is zero pressure to shave, wax, wear makeup, or anything else. Come to your session with or without body hair, but if you choose to wax or shave, be careful to take steps to avoid razor burn/ingrown hairs in the days leading up to your session.
Day of your session:
If you want to have your hair styled or makeup done professionally or get a mani/pedi/wax or other spa services before your session, go for it!
Here are some hair/makeup/spa professionals I personally love in the Des Moines metro area:
Ask your providers for their opinion on the best time to do these things ahead of your session. If you prefer a more natural or relaxed look, do that instead! No need to have nail polish or lipstick or freshly curled hair for your session if that’s not your vibe! The most important thing is for you to show up as yourself.
Avoid tight/fitted clothing on the day of your session.
Wearing loose-fitted clothing like sweats and a baggy tee (sans underwear) before you come into the studio will help prevent clothing impressions on your skin. Being well-hydrated also helps!
