What should you have in your wedding day emergency kit?
Your wedding day is coming right up, and all the planning is (nearly) finished, but have you put together your wedding day emergency kit yet? If you haven’t, this is a super easy last-minute task to complete that might just end up saving your wedding from any small mishaps that might occur.
Ripped dress? Spilled wine? Boutonniere won’t stay put? Updo not holding up? Someone has a headache? There’s something in here for all of that and more, so if you run into any wedding day hiccups, you can have a quick fix handy and get right back to focusing on your wedding day, your partner, and having fun with your guests.
Here’s my list of items you should pack in your wedding day emergency kit, as well as handy links to my fave brands/products to make shopping a breeze:
Clothing
Portable Steamer – My NUMBER ONE. Have a portable steamer handy for steaming creases out of dresses, shirts, silky robes/PJs and keep everyone looking 💯 for your wedding day - wrinkles can be downright impossible to photoshop out of clothes.
Sewing Kit – A basic sewing kit is great for snags, rips, you name it!
Safety Pins and Boutonniere Pins – These come in handy for quick and easy fixes like a broken strap or bustle - definitely get a variety pack so you can handle any size job. And don’t forget to include boutonniere pins - your florist might include a few extra for you, but don’t bank on it! Plus, sometimes you’ll get that one pesky boutonniere that’s a little top heavy and DEMANDS extra pins to stay upright.
Lint Roller, Anti-Static Spray, and Stain Remover Pen – Quickly deal with spills (we don’t want a red wine spot on the front of the wedding dress!), lint and pet hair (which shows up VERY WELL on dark fabrics), and the always annoying and dreaded static cling.
Fashion Tape – You can use it to prevent all kinds of wardrobe malfunctions. Most commonly used to hold fabric in place in the bodice area, it’s also commonly called boob tape. 😋
Accessories
Earring Backs – Anyone with pierced ears knows how easily earring backs can disappear. Help avoid last minute panic or being forced to leave your earrings behind by having some extra backs handy for yourself, parents, wedding party, etc.
Jewelry Wipes – Spruce up your rings the morning of your wedding, so they’re sparkling and shiny in your detail photos! Also great if you somehow get frosting all over your ring when you’re cutting into that delicious wedding cake. 🤪🎂
Super Glue – Inlaid stones can come out of place quite easily on some accessories (hair clips, bracelets, etc). Prevent any gaps by adding a drop of super glue underneath to hold the loose stone for the wedding day, until you can have it properly repaired later on.
Hair
Bobby Pins – Hair stylists usually leave pretty early in the day. Keep your style in place by having extra bobby pins on hand to fix flyaways or pieces that have fallen from your updo.
Hairspray and Dry Shampoo – Someone ALWAYS needs hairspray for extra hold or dry shampoo to keep hair from looking oily.
Hair Brush – Once when I was in a friend’s wedding party, I opted for a simple hairstyle of long curls, but the curls the stylist did were WAY TOO TIGHT for me. Thank goodness I had a brush handy and was able to loosen them up into a softer, more wavy curl, so I looked and felt my best and didn’t have to think about my hair the rest of the day.
Makeup
Lip Balm/Lipstick – Keep your lips hydrated all day so your lipstick doesn’t look dry or patchy, and keep extra lipstick handy for touch-ups before the ceremony and important photos!
Blotting Papers – These papers are magical for oily complexions. They absorb oil and keep shiny skin at bay, which is especially great for warm wedding days!
Top Coat and Nail Polish Remover – Clear top coat nail polish is a tried and true method for stopping snags in tights and delicate fabrics, any mom or grandma will tell you. It can also help keep your mani from chipping, and nail polish remover wipes are a lifesaver for anyone with a nail polish mishap.
Tweezers – Good for splinters AND rogue eyebrow/nose hairs.
Finishing Spray and Makeup Remover – If you have a makeup artist, they’ll probably finish your look with setting spray, but you can reapply as needed throughout the day. You might also want to have makeup remover wipes in case anyone is unhappy with part of their makeup look, so they can quickly remove and update it, or for after you cry your eyes out and realize you forgot to use the waterproof mascara. Oops!
Personal Care
Face + Body Towelettes, Baby Wipes, and Tissues – Good to have handy for sweat and tears! Both of which will absolutely happen on your wedding day.
Face/Body Lotion and Hand Cream – Keep your skin looking soft, hydrated, and glowy so you can look and feel your best all day. Lotions are a must-have for winter weddings when skin is already prone to dryness.
Baby Powder – Baby powder is kind of miraculous. You can put it in your shoes to prevent smells, it can absorb extra moisture (hello, nervous sweats!), and it can even prevent chafing. I personally like getting a talc-free brand like the one I have linked!
Deodorant – This one is obvious, but we all know it’s easy to forget deodorant, so pack a fresh stick in your emergency kit!
Floss and Mints – I recommend keeping floss handy to use after wedding day meals. You might notice I suggest having mints handy and not chewing gum, and that’s for good reason! They achieve the same goal of fresh-smelling breath, but mints disappear after a few minutes. Gum is easy to forget about, and it looks VERY BAD when folks are chewing gum in photos.
Tampons + Liners/Pads – Everyone’s least favorite wedding day surprise - the period and all its joy. Keep tampons and liners or pads on hand for folks who menstruate, they’ll appreciate it endlessly.
And that brings me to first aid…
First Aid
Pain Medicine, allergy medicine and medicine for upset stomachs. Enough said!
First Aid Kit – You can buy a pre-stocked first-aid kit, or prep your own quite easily. Include a variety of bandages, gauze, antibiotic ointment, alcohol prep pads, hand sanitizer, and cotton swabs.
Anti-Blister/Anti-Chafe Balm + Blister Cushion Bandages – New shoes are forgiving to no one, and even if you had a chance to break in your wedding day footwear, you’ll be wearing them all day long, and you might end up dealing with blisters anyway. Anti-blister balm will help keep them at bay a bit longer, but these blister cushion bandages are MIRACULOUS if you’ve already got one.
Sunscreen – This particular brand is the BEST for wearing on your wedding day because it is truly invisible and doesn’t have that white or iridescent sheen on your face that a lot of sunscreens will leave behind. It sits under makeup BEAUTIFULLY and you can even get this mist kind for reapplying throughout the day. It’s a must-have for all weddings, but do not skip for sunny summer weddings or beach destinations where the sun’s rays will burn you more quickly.
Bulk snacks like Granola Bars or Fruit Leather – Highly recommend having some healthy snack options available between meals, especially if you’re doing a full day of wedding activities. I hate when my couples forget to eat or don’t make time to eat on the wedding day. Nurture your bodies!
I hope this list of what to pack in your wedding day emergency kit has been helpful!
