Unique Veils for Non-Traditional Bridal Looks

Your wedding attire should feel like an extension of yourself. When it comes to veils, there’s a whole world beyond classic white tulle. If a traditional look doesn’t fit who you are, there’s no rule saying you have to wear one. Below are some of my favorite unique and independent veil designers creating pieces that feel personal, expressive, and artful.

My lovely bride Nicole wore a vintage fascinator hat for her greenhouse elopement. High-quality secondhand and vintage stores are a great place to look for non-traditional apparel and accessories for your wedding day, especially if you’re wanting a truly retro look. See more of Nicole’s wedding day here.

Madison Chamberlain makes some of my all time favorite non-traditional veils, including the big, playful Bow Veil with metallic ribbon bows framing your face, and my personal top favorite veil EVER, the Sweetheart Veil which is available in lots of great colors and fabrics, including a super luxurious satin. I’m bound and determined to wear this veil at my own wedding one day, I just adore that it turns into a heart when you wear it in the back. Absolutely precious.

Rock’N’Veil also does lighthearted and colorful veils inspired by rock songs (how fun?!! really speaking to my concert photographer side), like this Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac Veil with shimmering gold hearts. Sweet and fun!

Make a high-fashion statement with a veil in a bold hue like red or a dramatic full-length style like the Show Heart veil from Wed Studio. This designer has some truly gorgeous veils and I love how elaborate and sculptural they all feel. Dreamy.

For lovers of geometric structure and nice leading lines, the OPHELIA Veil from Jane Rhyan is so incredible. The cage piping feels reminiscent of corset boning, and the way it curls slightly gives it this perfectly undone elegance. Again, this designer has so many cool options to choose from.

If you’re a fan of all things retro and vintage fashion, you’ll probably love the 3D Floral Bridal Bandana from Janesse Russel. If you’re more a fan of longer retro styles, take a look at The Icon: Long Drop-Veil – it’s just to die for!

And finally, my last recommendation is for the truly playful color lovers! Taking it back to my first rec, this Lucky Star Veil from Madison Chamberlain is a full-length rainbow dream. If you’re wanting to add a LOT of color to your bridal look, this is the one. But if it’s not, this designer has a great line of veils, capes, and accessories and you’re sure to find something fun if you’re on the hunt for a unique and eclectic look for your wedding day.

All veils mentioned are pictured and linked above. These are not affiliate links—I just think these designers are creating genuinely exciting work and deserve support. Support independent designers! 😊

Planning your own artful, non-traditional wedding? That’s exactly what I photograph best. I work with couples who care more about meaning and creative expression than tradition, and I’d love to document your day in that same spirit.
