Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Courthouse Elopement
I met up with Kelsey and Matt for their courthouse elopement on a chilly Monday afternoon in December. Despite the cold, we had so much fun documenting their day of love in a cool little Midwestern city. Mason City is such an underrated city for architecture lovers–it’s home to numerous Prairie School style buildings and some incredible Midwestern Frank Lloyd Wright history.
Kelsey wore a dreamy tea-length tulle dress from Baltic Born with puff sleeves and a sweetheart neckline in a soft blue hue. (I LOVE a non-white wedding dress!) After some fun couples photos around the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse, their immediate families crowded into a little courtroom to witness Matt and Kelsey exchange vows, rings, and a first kiss in front of a judge. It was a simple and sweet and happy ceremony. Afterwards, we took some family photos in the lobby and dropped off paperwork downstairs at the Recorder’s office–so convenient! On the few-block trip to the hotel, there were seemingly dozens of Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired murals tucked away in every nook and cranny. It was SO COLD, and we were eager to get inside, but we stopped at a few of our favorites for more portraits on our way over.
Once we arrived at the Historic Park Inn Hotel, we were greeted with the COZIEST ambiance. This hotel is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed hotel with a rich artistic, architectural, and cultural history. It’s the only Wright-designed hotel that remains in existence! We explored the entire building, from the swanky sitting rooms and upstairs library to the basement bar and hallways lined with funky carpeting. A quick ride down the hallway on the bellhop took these newlyweds to their wedding night suite for snuggles before we said goodbye and they joined family in the basement lounge for espresso martinis.
I just loooveeeee documenting these intimate elopement days for couples who go to the courthouse to get married. You next?
